The Film Process

The Film Process

Production:

  • Ideas - comes from sources of inspiration e.g books, surroundings, people, other films, life events
  • Script - then it is the producer's job to make it become reality
  • Director and writer is needed
  • Pitch your ideas in order to gain an institution to fund your film
  • Finance - production company
  • Story board - sets the ideas out
  • Casting is needed for actors
  • Special/visual effects needed
  • Production and set design 
  • Shooting the film - this requires camerawork, actors etc  
Distribution:

  • Advertisement 
  • Cinema
  • Getting it out and known to audience's
  • Promotion - can be done through interviews and world premieres
  • See whether the film will gain large audience's - determines the distribution in cinema, local cinema venues or straight to DVD release or regular TV made film. 
Exhibition: 
Different ways the audience consumes the film 
  • The premieres - very high profile, actors and director attend - gains large media coverage 
  • UK has 3500 cinemas!!
  • Prints - the amount of copies made (film reels)
  • Box Office performance
  • Distribution recoup their marketing costs - then financers can recover their costs 
Home exhibition; DVDs, Internet, TV (Sky Box Office), Game Consoles (PS3 & XBox)
